Located in the heart of Kamloops is what we like to call “Downtown”, but it’s actual neighbourhood name is South Kamloops. I do believe this is the heart of our town, filled with tons of history, and it’s where it all started…
The streets are filled with cherry blossoms, magnolias and rustic old buildings repurposed as small local businesses. Victoria street is the main drag, filled with amazing shops, clothing stores, restaurants and some of the best patios! On Saturdays we have our local Kamloops Farmers Market from 8:30am – 12:30pm, as well as on Wednesdays from 8am – 2pm. Down along the river is the park where all summer long you can go to Music in the Park! Sit in the grass, watch the kids play in the water park and listen to different live bands every evening. Here’s the schedule for this summer.
Up along the streets is basically a museum. The beauty, history and appreciation that owners have for these homes is truly breathtaking. I just walk along the sidewalks, along the flowers and just absorb these structures that have been here for 100 years. Notice some homes are certified historic. They have a plaque among the sidewalk for you to read and learn the details, timeline and how that home came about!
Living downtown means living in a piece of history and being within walking distance to shopping, eats and parks. Some of the biggest events we have in Kamloops are located downtown at Riverside Park.
Ok OK, I’ve babbled enough – can you tell how much I adore history, character and Kamloops yet?!
